Mark graduated from Greendale High School in 1987. After moving to California and pursuing a career in music, his goals changed in September of 20006 after learning that Petty Officer Michael Monsoor had been killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Monsoor had thrown himself on a grenade to save his teammates, and honoring his memory became the driving force in Mark's decision to enlist in the Navy in 2008. He graduated as the Honor Recruit from Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, in November of 2008, followed by a deployment to three areas of responsibility; Kuwait, Iraq and Bahrain. After being selected as Sailor of the Year in 2014 and 2015, he was promoted to his present pay grade of Chief Petty Officer in 2016. He wore his Service Dress White Uniform for the first time when he was married on the steps of Greendale Village Hall on July 7th, 2017. He continues to serve his country and is based in Coronado, California.
