James "Jim" Burnham was born April 20,1944 in Janesville, WI. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1962. He enlisted in the US Army in 1964. On September 10, 1964 he was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, MO where he spent 8 weeks in basic training followed by 16 weeks of personnel training. He then spent 4 weeks at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Military Base Finance Center in Indianapolis, IN doing Finance training. Next he spent 8 days on a troop carrier ship traveling across the Atlantic Ocean to his final destination of Bremerhaven, Germany. His ship was the 3rd last of all Army ships used to transport troop for general service as the Army started using airplanes for transport shortly after Jim's journey.

In Germany, Jim spent 2 1/2 years at Bremerhaven Army Airfield. His role was Personnel Specialist and then Finance Specialist. His main job was payroll and noted that everything was hand typed. He took leave a few times traveling most notably to the Berlin wall and to Barcelona, Spain. He was honorably discharged on August 21, 1967 as SPC5.

Following his discharge, Jim moved to Milwaukee where he met Greendale original Patricia "Pat" Kuschewski.  They married in 1970 and moved back to Greendale in 1978. They purchased Pat's parent's home on Berry Ct. in 1984 where they raised their 3 daughters and lived for over 30 years. Jim and Pat are enjoying their retirement years in Greenfield, WI and their youngest daughter now owns their Greendale home.
