January, 1970 to June, 1976 - Active Duty. 1977 to 1980, Wisconsin Air Guard. Lee Berge entered the Air Force in 1970. After one year of pilot training at Webb AFB, Texas, 2nd Lt. Berge was assigned to fly the KC-135's tanker. Lt. Berge was then assigned to the 922nd Air Refueling Squadron at Wright-Patterson AFB. During this assignment, Lt. Berge deployed on two tours of duty to Southeast Asia where he flew air refueling missions in support of US bombers and fighters. On the second deployment to Southeast Asia, he upgraded to the position of Aircraft Commander and led groups of KC-135's to refueling points throughout Southeast Asia during the Linebacker campaign. Capt. Berge also flew many other missions in support of air refueling operations throughout the world. Capt. Berge then transferred to the 4950th Test Wing at Wright Patterson AFB and deployed on world wide missions in testing and development of aircraft avionic and weapon systems. Captain Berge received the following Air Force commendations: Vietnam Service Medal with 1 bronze service star, Air Medal and the Air Force Commendation medal. Capt. Berge joined the 128th Air Refueling Squadron in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and served as a KC-135 Aircraft Commander until his separation in 1980.
