I would like to submit my son CSM (R) David J Ahola for consideration for Greendale Veterans
Memorial. Although born in New Orleans, La in 1968, his formative and school years were in
the Milwaukee area. He enlisted into the US Army from Greendale, WI and since his retirement
in January 2019 he has settled back in Greendale and is continuing his service working for the
U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion as a Soldier and Family Assistant Program Manager.
He began his Army career in 1989 with no thought of making the Army his career. Although his
early years were brutal in the infantry I noticed a great maturity development in him, I was
pleased that the Army appreciated him and as his family grew they were well taken care of. He
became a great leader of his men, I know this as I met many at his 30 year retirement
ceremony and party after words. I always told my son he was the perfect Army poster boy. He
was well loved and very much respected. I know that Greendale would be proud to recognize
this great veteran.
