After 10 weeks of boot camp at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL, Dean's first 2-year tour of duty was at the Naval Air Station in Kingsville, TX, as part of a training squadron in aviation electronics. In October 1961, he was honored with the "Sailor of the Month" award for exemplary work, conduct & achievements.
Dean's 2nd tour of duty was at the Naval Air Station in Lemoore, CA. This 2-year assignment included a 7-1/2 month WESTPAC deployment aboard the USS RANGER Forrestal aircraft carrier (CVA-61) as part of Fighter Attack Squadron VA-93 servicing A4-D Skyhawk jets as an Aviation Electronics Technician (ATN-2). Ports of call included Naval Air bases in: Pearl Harbor, HI; Subic Bay & Manila in the Philippines; Sasebo, & Yokosuka, Japan; Hong Kong.
After returning to civilian life as a proud Navy Veteran, Dean was employed by Astronautics Corp of America (ACA) in Milwaukee for over 46 years in the Engineering Lab & as Engineering Lab Supervisor. He & his family have been Greendale residents since Nov 1967.
